Hello! As of February, I am 5 months without a relaxer! Currently, I have about two and a half inches of new growth in the crown of my head and about an inch around the edges. I decided to transition because I have severe breakage in the 'kitchen" of my hair. It happened because of me wearing a lot of tight ponytails...Cause if it aint tight, it aint right! At least that is what I thought... I kind of "big chopped" my kitchen becuase it was so ugly!!
My favorite transitioning styles that I like to wear are: braid outs, bantu knots, and flexi rods or perm rods. For the braid outs, I put about eight braids all over my head. I do not braid all the way to the ends, about two inches before the end I put a satin covered sponge roller on the ends. You can also use perm rods at the ends. This style helps to match the roots with the relaxed ends. (The picture where I am wearing the red shirt is a braid out)
The bantu knots is a very easy style to do. I put about 9 - 10 bantu knots all over my head. What you do is, you part a section of hair and you two strand twist until about two inches above the bottom, then you twist the "plat" around that section until you form a "knot". You let them dry and when you take it down you have a very curly look. A photo is attached of the knots and the final look.
The other style I transition with are roller sets or rod sets. Pictures are attached for this style as well.
The products I use are Cantu Shea Butter leave in conditioner hair cream, Honeyhemp Comditioner from oyinhandmade.com, Naturally Organic Unrefined Shea Butter from butters-n-bars.com, and Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel. I use all of them very often. I shampoo wash my hair once or twice a month, and I co wash (washing with conditioner)weekly.
So, thats my regimen...check out the pics!
