Hood Chic Flat twists!

Ok so I have found a protective style for my hair in the winter time that I really, really like! (Protective styles are styles that "protect" your naturally curly/kinky hair from the harsh cold and wind that can dry it out and cause it break) The style is called flat twists. They are like cornrows except they are twisted to the head instead of braided. I used my Generic Paul Mitchell- The Conditioner and Castor oil. I also used a little Eco stlyer gel on the edges and ends. I feel a little "hoodish" when I wear my hair like this. LOL! So I made it "hood chic" by adding a little jewelry and lipgloss! Work it Fyecurls! Check out my "Hood Chic" look yall:

Product Review!

Today I cowashed my hair and used the Generic Value brand of Paul Mitchell-The Conditoner. It is a leave-in conditioner that I've seen many people give positive reviews. I used this first and then raked Eco Styler- Olive Oil gel through my hair. It is about 50% dry on these pics, but so far I "likey!" Shiny, soft, defined curls! What more can a gal ask for!

A FYE Transitioner: Camilia gives us tips on how she copes with the two different textures. Check out these styles ladies! Can we say GORGEOUS!!!

Hello! As of February, I am 5 months without a relaxer! Currently, I have about two and a half inches of new growth in the crown of my head and about an inch around the edges. I decided to transition because I have severe breakage in the 'kitchen" of my hair. It happened because of me wearing a lot of tight ponytails...Cause if it aint tight, it aint right! At least that is what I thought... I kind of "big chopped" my kitchen becuase it was so ugly!!

My favorite transitioning styles that I like to wear are: braid outs, bantu knots, and flexi rods or perm rods. For the braid outs, I put about eight braids all over my head. I do not braid all the way to the ends, about two inches before the end I put a satin covered sponge roller on the ends. You can also use perm rods at the ends. This style helps to match the roots with the relaxed ends. (The picture where I am wearing the red shirt is a braid out)

The bantu knots is a very easy style to do. I put about 9 - 10 bantu knots all over my head. What you do is, you part a section of hair and you two strand twist until about two inches above the bottom, then you twist the "plat" around that section until you form a "knot". You let them dry and when you take it down you have a very curly look. A photo is attached of the knots and the final look.

The other style I transition with are roller sets or rod sets. Pictures are attached for this style as well.

The products I use are Cantu Shea Butter leave in conditioner hair cream, Honeyhemp Comditioner from oyinhandmade.com, Naturally Organic Unrefined Shea Butter from butters-n-bars.com, and Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel. I use all of them very often. I shampoo wash my hair once or twice a month, and I co wash (washing with conditioner)weekly.

So, thats my regimen...check out the pics!

Hairstyle of the day: Done with my homemade mix!

This is my wash-n-go done today with my homemade concoction of Eco styler, Herbal Essence gel, and various oils, veg. glycerine, and aloe vera gel!
(side note:) The side with the flat twists is very thin and nearly bald! :-/ I got this when I was relaxed and wore my hair pulled too tightly. Ladies, we have to loosen those ponytails and headbands,on our children's hair too!

Coming Soon! Henna and Hairstyles

My hair is growing nicely. I recently got some raggedy ends cut off, so its behaving quite well! I will be doing a henna treatment soon, as well as posting pics of the different hairstyles that I am able to achieve with this 4 inches of hair on my head, aka my TWA (teeny weeny afro). :-)

What are your favorite hairstyles to do? Do you henna? Are you interested in henna? I started learning about henna for hair about 4 months ago. I love the results on my hair! So FYE! Lol.

Castor Oil

Hey girls! Its been a busy week for me. Sorry for being gone so long! I just had to drop in to let yall know that I have a new favorite hair oil: CASTOR OIL!!!! It is so moisturizing and it is thick, so a little goes a LONG way! I bought mine from Wholefoods. It is made by a company called Home Health and has NO mineral oils, petrolatums, or parabens! Yay for castor oil!!!

Exact hair regimen:

Someone asked me to tell exactly what I use on my hair and how...So here goes...

Wash-n-go look:

While in shower, I wet my hair and cowash with one of my fav condioners (listed in previous post). I do my shower duties: bathing, shaving, etc. then detangle with a wide tooth comb under the running water. I rinse it out with cool water. I then put some more conditioner in and and quickly dip my head back in the water to just rinse SOME of the conditioner out. Do not towel dry hair. Either shake off the excess water, or pat with a t-shirt, or microfiber cloth. This prevents frizz. Then to style, I add some essential oil: coconut/olive oil/castor oil and rake my fingers through sections of hair. If I want more curl definition, I add some type of alcohol free gel (ecostyler, kinky curly curling custard, curly magic, etc)

Two strand twist/twist out:

For this style, I take small sections of hair, detangle with a fine tooth comb or denman brush, add hair butter and a pinch of gel and twist hair until I get to the ends. I twirl the ends to keep them from unraveling. I do this all over and let dry. Then I either wear like this for a week, or I untwist in the morning and wear a wavy looking style called a "twist out"

There are numerous YouTube video demonstrating these looks. The youtubers that I learned the most from on these styles are MahoganyCurls, Sheacocoluv, and NappyChronicles. They all had TWAs(TWA-teeny weeny afro)like I did. There are literally hundreds of great videos out there. So check out the "Blogs I Follow" to the right of the screen, and the Youtube vids to the lower right of the screen.

I hope this helps! Let me know if anything needs further explaining!
God bless...
