Hood Chic Flat twists!

Ok so I have found a protective style for my hair in the winter time that I really, really like! (Protective styles are styles that "protect" your naturally curly/kinky hair from the harsh cold and wind that can dry it out and cause it break) The style is called flat twists. They are like cornrows except they are twisted to the head instead of braided. I used my Generic Paul Mitchell- The Conditioner and Castor oil. I also used a little Eco stlyer gel on the edges and ends. I feel a little "hoodish" when I wear my hair like this. LOL! So I made it "hood chic" by adding a little jewelry and lipgloss! Work it Fyecurls! Check out my "Hood Chic" look yall:

  3. very cute!! Ok...UGHHHH yesterday I started considering again perming my youngest babies hair. I don't want to do it, but I think about how much easier my life would be!! It is frustrating because I too am buying product after product. Plus my girls hair is very different. Carah (the baby) has very coarse hair. And it is thick! I usually flat iron it but I don't like all that heat.Carleigh has hair like a spider web, it gets sooo tangled. It is looks like little tiny tiny springs. It draws up and looks like it is short. It is cute. Yet I don't know how to maintain it. I think my first problem is trying to use the same products on both of their hair. Well I am rambling, but I am so on the verge of making 2 hair appt next month so this is my cry out for help....HELP!!!! Farrah!

  4. Hey Farrah! I SO feel your pain! I relaxed my little girl's hair when she was 5. I didnt know what to do with it because it was so thick and tangly. But when I finally found the right products and learned how to properly care for natural hair, I decided to transition her back to natural. So I cut off her relaxed ends a couple of months ago. And we starting anew. With all that said...DONT PANIC and make the mistake I made. I have some great product suggestions that will make detangling SO much easier. Also the method of washing and detangling makes a big difference.
*Before washing their hair, detangle it and put it in 6-8 braids or twists. Gently shampoo it with the twists in. Rinse out and then add your conditioner. Take down one twist at a time, detangle with a wide tooth comb and then braid or twist that part back up. Do this with each twist. Then gently rinse the twists with cool water and leave some conditioner in the hair. Their hair will be soft, moisturized, and most importantly detangled when you are ready to comb it. (use a wide tooth comb or denman brush(found at sallys))*
I know this sounds like alot of work, but once you get used to the routine, you will notice how much faster it is than taking an hour detangling hair.
    BEST DETANGLING/CONDITIONING PRODUCTS:
Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture conditioner (walmart/wholefoods/target)
    Herbal Essence Hello Hydration(Walmart)
    Kinky Curly Knot Today (Wholefoods)
Cantu Sheabutter Leave in Repair Cream (Walmart)
    * I also recommend using essential oils in their hair. I like olive oil, coconut oil, and castor oil. Which one you use would depend on the thickness/density of your childs hair. Just test them out and see which one their hair respons best to.*

I hope this helps Farrah! Keep me updated!

  5. Ok!! I am excited about trying the hair washing technique! Also with the oils, does it come in an actual oil or a grease? If an oil...do you rub it or spray it etc? About to go buy some of these products now! Thanks!! I'll let you know what works for us!

  6. As far as the oils, they are all the real thing...Like what you cook with. I bought all these things at Wholefoods, but you can buy them at the grocery store. I put the extra virgin olive oil in a pump bottle and use that during deep conditioning treatments or just when I want some extra moisture. I use coconut oil right out of the jar when I just want some extra shine to finish off my hairstyle. And I use castor oil when my hair feels really dry or on the ends of my twists every night before bed.
I hope this helps! Please keep me updated!
